IONIA. Magnesia ad Maeandrum. AR Tetradrachm, ca. 225-200 B.C. NGC Ch VF.
Pr-2033 var. (monogram orientation). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left; two monograms in left field, maeander pattern in exergue. An unpublished variety of a RARE issue. This example features a strong portrait of Herakles, crisp reverse details, and attractive bright surfaces. A charming later Alexander-type Tetradrachm with the quintessential Greek "maeander" pattern serving as an allusion to the issuing city.
