Australia, The Sydney International Exhibition, 1879, "First Special Award" prize medal in copper, by J. S. & A. B. Wyon, from designs by Samuel Begg and James Sayers, figure of Australia with shield and industrial and artistic trophies, before façade of exhibition building, rev named in wreath of Australian fruits and flora "S. Grant – First Special Award", 76.5mm, extremely fine, scarce
The Sydney International Exhibition (17 September 1879 - 20 April 1880) was a determining landmark in the history of the Colony of New South Wales, and was Australia's first International Exhibition. The Exhibition Catalogue has no entry for S. Grant as an exhibitor; indeed the only Grant seems to be The Hon. James Macpherson Grant, M.P., Minister of Justice, a 'Member' of the Commissioners.

Estimate: 120 - 150 GBP
