Nero Claudius Drusus, brother of Tiberius, father of Germanicus and Claudius (died in 9 AD). AE Sestertius, Rome mint, 50-54 AD. Countermarked NCAPR. Obv. NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP. Bare head of Nero Claudius Drusus left, countermark NCAPR in incuse rectangle behind. Rev. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP PP SC (in exergue). Claudius (or Drusus) seated left on curule chair, holding branch, surrounded by arms,. RIC I (2nd ed.) (Claud.) 109. AE. 29.54 g. 37.00 mm. Scarce. In very good condition for countermarked example. The countermark very fine. Green brown patina, with reddish spots. VF/About VF. The counterstamp has been said to mean N(ummus) C(aesare) A(ugusto) PR(obatus) and to be of Flavian date, or to have been applied by the successor of Claudius and to mean N(ero) C(aesar) A(ugustus) PR(obavit). Another proposed solution reads N(eronis) C(aesaris) A(ugusti) P(opulique) R(omani).
