British India, 1857-58, Indian Mutiny Medal, Victoria Queen, Silver, Awarded to "D.T. Ver John Crosseey", Clasp "Lucknow", Obv: Wyon profile of Queen Victoria facing left, legend around "VICTORIA REGINA", Rev: the standing figure of Britannia bestowing victor's laurels, with the British lion alongside, "INDIA" appears round the top with the dates "1857-1858" in the exergue, bar with ribbon & clasp "LUCKNOW", engraved on the edge "D.T. VER JOHN CROSSEEY. R. M. A.", 32.32g, 36.14x96.08mm, (MYB 2007 # 121), bar broken, about very fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: This medal was awarded to troops who took part in operations to quell the Sepoy mutiny which was the immediate cause of the uprising, but also served to draw attention to the Honorable East India Company's conduct of affairs and led directly to the transfer of the administration of India to the Crown. There are fewer medals awarded to the original defenders of Lucknow with the clasp for the defense of Lucknow.
