Print: The Anglo-Mysore War, Last Effort & Fall of Tippoo Sultaun (Tipu Sultan) & Siege of Seringpatan, wood framed in 9.5 x 13 inches (approx.), good condition some stains and minor damages.

Note: Engraved by J. Rogers after a large-scale painting by Henry Singleton in 1851, it depicts the East India Company storming and capturing Seringapatam, Tipu Sultan's fortified capital and bitter opponent of British imperialism in May 1799. Mysore and British forces appear to be engaged in a pitched battle, with uniformed British soldiers aggressively charging at Tipu, who is on the defensive, literally on the back foot. During the fourth Anglo-Mysore war, Tipu fought to the death and Seringpatan fell.

An image underneath recalls Tipu's surrender to the British in 1792, when Lieutenant-General Lord Cornwallis, Governor-General of India, took his two sons hostage. Inscription "Tippoo's sons given to the English as hostages."
