EMPIRE OF TREBIZOND. Uncertain, ca. 13th- 14th century AD. AE Trachy.
Obv: Half- lenght bust of St. Eugenius facing, presenting cross.
Rev: Emperor standing facing, being crowned by St. Constantine, globus cruciger between them, two crosses flanking.
The style and fabric of this coin make it most certain that it has been minted in the Empire of Trebizond.
A Prototype for this issue could be a Trachy of Manuel Comnenus Ducas of Thessalonica (Sear 2181), with Christ on the obverse and Saint Constantine crowning the Emperor on reverse.
Apparently unpublished.
