Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Light Miliarense (Silver, 22 mm, 3.65 g, 6 h), celebrating Constantine I's tricennalia, Rome, July 336. CONSTANTI-NVS IVN N C Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. VICTORIA CAESARVM / R Victory advancing left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. Ramskold in review (Numismatic Chronicle), fig. 23A. RIC -. RSC -. Apparently unique. Somewhat rough and with a thin flan crack and a few minor marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.


From the collections of Dr. L. Ramskold and a hanseatic friend of the Romans ('hanseatischen Römerfreundes'), Künker 341, 1 October 2020, 6075, and ex Lanz 112, 25 November 2002, 890.

This unique coin is one of only two known miliarensia from Constantine's second tricennial emission. The other, with the same reverse, was struck for Constantius Caesar (Arsantiqua 1 (2000), 442).
