Constantine I, 307/310-337. Light Miliarense (Silver, 24 mm, 4.55 g, 1 h), Nicomedia, 327. CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG Pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. FELICITAS ROMANORVM / SMN Distyle aedicula; within, Constantine I standing facing, head to left, between Constantius, on the left, and Constantine II, on the right, each in military attire, holding long scepter in his right hand and globe in his left. Gnecchi -. Ramskold & Gautier, p. 47, no. 39 (this coin). RIC -. RSC -. Very rare. Thin flan crack and with some minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about extremely fine.

The two princes on the reverse show that this coin was struck after the death of Crispus in July/August 326. The triple pearl diadem was used in Nicomedia in 327 before Constantine came back from Rome. After this, the fully developed rosette diadem was introduced in the bronze coinage, and the bust was changed from showing a head only to a draped and cuirassed bust. These types were lumped by Bruun into a single emission dated to 328-9 in RIC VII, but the dates must be moved back by one year.
