Canute (1016?35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017?1023), Oxford mint, moneyer , crowned and draped bust left within quatrefoil, legend commences at 1 o'clock, +CNVT REX ?NGLORVM:. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +COLEM?N ON OX, 1.11g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII; cf. SCBI 2 [Hunterian], 902; SCBI 15 [Copenhagen], 3255?59; Oxford early style dies). Light cabinet tone, striking crack visible, some peckmarks, otherwise good very fine in its detail, metal stable. Noted on the Sharman backing ticket as being potentially of Scandinavian origin.
