Elizabeth I (1558?1603), Threepence, 1578, fifth issue (1578?82), mintmark Greek cross, crowned bust left rose behind, inner beaded circles both sides, legend surrounds ELIZABETH DG ANG FR ET HI REGINA. Rev, flat topped quartered shield of arms over long cross fourchee, reads POSVI DEV A DIVTOR E MEV, date above (S.2573; N.1998; Brown & Comber 4D ). Toned, retaining much of its original mint bloom, flan a little ragged in the south?eastern perimeter. Displaying some very good detail in the portrait with legible legends, some die breaks, reverse scrape. Very fine.
