Charles I (1625?49), Gold Crown of Five Shillings, Tower mint, group B, Class II, longer narrower elongated bust breaking linear beaded circle, mintmark heart both sides (1629?30), crowned bust left, jewelled outer arches, value in field behind, pellet stops in legend, reads CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, crowned quartered rectangular shield of arms, with light garniture, beaded circle surrounding, reads CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT, 2.29g (S.2712; N.2182; Brooker 183; Schneider.235). Lightly toned with much of the original mint bloom and brilliance visible, mirrored fields. Consistently well detailed in both the portrait, inscriptions and reverse shield; some unobtrusive hairlines, the slightest of wear to the high points. Good extremely fine, rare so well preserved. A charming piece of House of Stuart Gold, superb.
