Charles I (1625?49), Crown, Exeter mint, 1645, mintmark castle both sides, outer and inner beaded circles, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MAG BRI FRA ET HI REX, armoured King on horseback left with upright sword. Rev, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 1645, oval quartered garnished shield, 29.38g (S.3062; N.2561; Brooker 1042?45). Set out on an imposing flan, free from any flan edge knocks or chips with a mauve cabinet tone. King and horse showing some good detail, legends legible with some minor obverse double striking around Rex. Rev, lighter tone with clear legends, coat of arms pleasing despite some distortion. Very fine.
