George IV (1820?30), Proof Half?Sovereign of 1826 by William Wyon after Chantrey's model, the reverse design by Johanne B. Merlen. Bare head left, outer toothed border both sides, legend surrounds from bottom left GEORGIUS IV DEI GRATIA, date below. Rev, crowned flat topped garnished shield, eight semée of hearts, BRITANNIARUM REX FID DEF surrounds, edge milled, 3.99g (S.3804; W&R 249). Lustrous tone, some hairlines and the usual unobtrusive nicks, a little scratching below the sharpest point of truncation, portrait excellent with a semi cameo effect in the fields. Rev, equally well struck up with some light contact marks. Possibly wiped in past with some subtle field disturbance. Good extremely fine, rare.
