George V (1910?36), Proof crown, 1935, raised lettered edge, toothed border both sides, bare head facing left, BM on truncation for designer Bertram Mackennal, legend commences at bottom left GEORGIVS V DG BRITT OMN REX FD IND IMP. Rev, modern depiction of Saint George and the dragon facing left, P.M to the right of dragon for designer Percy Metcalfe, above CROWN – 1935. Edge reads DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI XXV. (S.4050; ESC.378). Uneven toning, sharply executed portrait with archetypal mirrored fields associated with this type. Rev, pleasing mirrored streaky tone. Extremely fine, becoming increasingly difficult to procure in the British market irrespective of grade. Mintage 2,500 with official Royal Mint red cardboard box.
