Rev, modern depiction of Saint George and the dragon facing left, P.M to the right of dragon for designer Percy Metcalfe, above CROWN – 1935. Edge reads DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI XXV. (S.4050; ESC.378). Uneven toning, sharply executed portrait with archetypal mirrored fields associated with this type. Rev, pleasing mirrored streaky tone. Extremely fine, becoming increasingly difficult to procure in the British market irrespective of grade. Mintage 2,500 with official Royal Mint red cardboard box.
