Syria 1.8.1919 P-4 PMG Very Fine 30 100 Piastres
Surpassed in the PMG population report by just a single finer example, this is a very difficult type and denomination from the first series of Syria. This was the second highest denomination of this series, and it is downright rare in any grade. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. in England with a design that includes the columns of Baalbek on the front. The back features a view of Beirut, in modern-day Lebanon, as the two countries were closely linked with each other for a large part of their history, including as part of the Ottoman empire and later as French mandates. Problem-free with good eye-appeal for the technical grade, and a note from Syria that is surely missing from many (advanced) collections of the region.
