MACEDON, Thessalonica. Augustus, with Divus Julius Caesar. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ (20mm, 7.14 g, 6h). Bare head of Divus Julius right / Bare head of Augustus right. Touratsoglou Em. II (of Domitian), 26 (V3/R17); RPC I 1555; Varbanov 4152. Green patina, roughness. Good Fine.
From the Conti Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Review XIX.2 (2nd Quarter 1994), no. 323.
Touratsoglou interpreted this issue as a restitution issue struck during the reign of Domitian, but countermarks found on the coins suggest a much earlier date (RPC p. 298; Howgego, notes to 702 and 705).
