Canada St. Johns, NF- Commercial Bank of Newfoundland 5 Pounds ($20) 1.1.1874 Ch.# 185-14-08 PMG Very Good 10. The Commercial Bank of Newfoundland operated from 1857 to 1894, and during that stint, a few banknote series were issued. This incredible higher denomination is extremely rare and missing from many collections. Despite extensive circulation, the design elements are still on display. We have offered this type only once previously, and it is one of only three currently graded in the PMG Population Report. While Newfoundland coins and notes are often grouped with Canada, it is important to remember that Newfoundland was a separate British colony until 1949, which will endear this type to a wider swath of collectors.
