Colombia Republica de Colombia 6 1/4 Centavos = Medio Real 8.5.1836 Pick 1 Fine. The initial denomination from the first proposed series for The Republic of Colombia. These notes were never officially issued/approved by the government of Colombia. The printers Peter Maverick, New York, had presented this family of notes to Simon Bolivar, but he was not enthused, especially after the fall of the first Republic of Venezuela. The notes were intended to be printed in 1821 after the congress approved the creation of a National Bank in La Gran Colombia, but the creation of this Bank never came to fruition. Although these types were never issued, there has been some speculation to whether companies operating within the Latin American Spanish colonies might have appropriated remainders after Bolivar's death in 1930. Danilo Parra's Colombian Book states that this variety was "apparently issued", and this note is imaged as a reference. Corner missing.
