East Africa East African Currency Board 50 Florins = 5 Pounds 1.5.1920 Pick 12s Specimen PMG About Uncirculated 55. East Africa's 1920 series, denominated in Florins, is extremely desirable due to its stunning design elements and extreme rarity. The 1 Florin denomination is the only note that is occasionally seen, with all others being amazingly scarce. This 50 Florins is the 5th denomination in the series and represented a large sum of money at the time. Specimen are more than just samples, as they sometimes reveal pertinent details about the issued notes. For example, this note shows a serial number range of A/1 00001 to A/1 20000, indicating that it is plausible that only 20,000 notes notes were to be printed and issued. However, in 1921, East Africa replaced the Florins with Shillings, making this beautiful series slated for withdrawal and destruction. At the time of cataloging, only five issued notes and two Specimen are present in the PMG Population Report, making any extant example extremely desirable. A perforated cancellation and edge damage are mentioned, along with printer notations. A stunning Thomas de la Rue creation.
