Tiberius AE Sestertius
Tiberius (14-37 AD). AE Sestertius (36 mm, 24.49 g), Roma, 22-23 AD.
Obv. CIVITATIBVS ASIAE RESTITVTIS, Tiberius laureate, seated left, foot on stool, holding patera and sceptre.
Rev. TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVST P M TR POT XXIIII around S C.
RIC I 48.
Green patina. Good very fine.
The statue depicted on the obverse was erected to Tiberius by fourteen cities of Asia to commemorate his generosity in coming to their aid after they suffered severe damage in an earthquake in 17 AD.
With old collector's ticket: privately purchased in October '38.
