ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29,5 mm, 16.56 g, 12 h), New Style coinage, struck under the magistrates Karaichos, Ergokles, and Chai.., 121-120. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing a triple-crested Attic helmet, adorned with Pegasos and a long tendril on the bowl, and with four horse protomes on the visor. Rev. Α-ΘΕ / KA-PAIX / ΕPΓO-KΛΕ / XAI Owl standing right on amphora, head facing; to right, prow; on amphora, H; below amphora, ΣΩ (= contractor's initials); all within olive wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 534b. Well centered and struck. Light porosity on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
