Cotys III was the king of Bosporos, perhaps alongside his brothers, Sauromates III and Rhescuporis IV, with whom his coinage overlaps. Very little is known about him other than what can be gleaned from his coins. From an inscription we do known that he was the son of his predecessor, Rhescuporis III, and he was perhaps the father of his successor, Ininthimeus. He died two years after this coin was struck, in 234.
