M. Baebius Q.f. Tampilus, 137 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.95 g, 5 h), Rome. TAMPIL Helmeted head of Roma to left; before chin, X (mark of value). Rev. ROMA / M · BAEBI · Q · F Apollo driving galloping quadriga to right, holding branch, bow, and reins. Babelon (Baebia) 12. BMCRR 935. Crawford 236/1d. cf. RBW 977 (no arrow). Sydenham 489. Sharply struck. Reverse slightly off-centre, otherwise, good very fine.

This issue by M. Baebius comes in several variants differing only in small details. Our coin depicts Apollo holding a bow but no arrow, and Roma wearing a necklace of beads, not pendants. This identifies this specimen as part of the quite rare Crawford 236/1d group.
