Andronicus II Palaeologus, 1282-1328. Tornese (Billon, 14 mm, 0.52 g, 6 h), Constantinople, first sole reign, 1282-1295. [...]NIK[...] Crowned half-length bust of Andronicus II facing, wearing loros, holding scepter in right hand and akakia in left. Rev. Palaeologan monogram. DOC -. Cf. LPC p. 38, 6 corr. (emperor wearing stemma, divitision and chlamys; incorrectly described as holding labarum and globus-cruciger). Cf. PCPC 96 (manus Dei in upper right field). Cf. SB 2329 (incorrectly cites LPC p. 36, 6, but which shows the emperor differently attired and is also misdescribed in LPC, at least according to the line drawing there). Unpublished. Very fine.
