INDONESIA: BORNEO: BI "thaler" (22.34g), ca. 18th-19th century, cf. SS-94 (British North Borneo), crude local cast imitation of Maria Theresa thaler, with two large crosses on either side of the bust, VF. Examples of these mysterious imitations have been reported around Barabai City in South Kalimantan, about 100 miles north of Banjarmasin. They are cast in a crude manner and in imitation of commonly circulated European silver coins in the area, such as the Maria Theresa thaler or the Dutch 10 stuiver, but bear additional, unexplained symbols in the field.
