According to Nicholas du Quesne Bird, this bar is among the 7 examples (6 whole, 1 broken) acquired in 1993 in the Korhogo area of Côte d'Ivoire by a collector of trade beads and other ethnographic material. It is comparable to an example produced in Ottoman Libya during the reign of Mustafa III and may have arrived in the area on the trans-Saharan trade routes.
