Christ standing holding globus cruciger within mandorla.Fr. 1419; KM. 673.1; Paolucci 11.Before Alvise IV Mocenigo was elected Doge of Venice, he held the position of procurator of San Marco. His inauguration in 1737 is displayed on this medal. This position was a lifetime appointment, and it mostly comprised of managing of the finances of the Basilica of San Marco and the Republic of Venice. He married to Pisana Corner di Ferigo who, comparable to Mocenigo, belonged to one of the richest Venetian families. The marriage produced six sons who, curiously enough, all bore their father's first name. Mocenigo executed the position of doge from 1763 until his passing in 1778. He was buried next to his wife in the Santi Giovanni e Paolo in the Northern part of Venice. 34.97 g. Traces of mount and attached eyelet. Nearly extremely fine
