Elizabeth I, sixth issue, ship ryal of 15 shillings, mm. escallop (1585-87), London, crowned queen wearing ruff stg. facing on ship, holding orb and sceptre, Tudor rose at centre, E on waving flag on forecastle, rev. floriated cross with a lis at end of each limb, rose on sunburst at centre, in each angle a lion passant crowned, all within a tressure of eight arches, Lombardic lettering in legends on both sides, wt. 7.93gms. (S.2530; N.2004; Schneider 785), short of flan in only one small area but otherwise showing full legends and most of the beaded rims, evenly struck and smoothly worn, the queen's visage sharply outlined, the entire reverse also well detailed for the grade, rich old gold tone, about very fine, very rare
