Good Extremely Fine; minor flan crack, attractive light cabinet tone with underlying lustre. Very Rare.

The reverse of this issue denotes both a vota quinquennalia and decennalia (V-X). This issue cannot be commemorating a vota celebrated by Constantius Gallus himself as he reigned for only three years as Caesar before being executed by Constantius II for treason. It is not unusual for two vota enumerations to appear on the same issue, the second usually being anticipatory in its reference to the next celebration (typically five or ten years), nor was it unusual for imperial colleagues to harmonise their vota even if their accession dates were incompatible. It is known that Constantius celebrated his tricennalia on 8 November 353 and issues bearing the vota XXX-XXXX were struck in commemoration. It is plausible that this issue was struck within the context of the trincennalia and bears two anticipatory vota enumerations representing the next five and ten year celebrations (for further discussion, see RIC VIII, pp. 50-54).
