Trajan, (A.D. 98-117), an issue in honour of his deceased father, silver denarius, issued 115, Rome Mint, (2.88 g), obv. laureate bust of Trajan, draped on far shoulder to right, around IMP TRAIANVS AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, rev. Trajan senior seated left on curule chair, holding patera and sceptre, around DIVVS PATER TRAIAN, (S.3323, RIC 252, RSC 140, BMC 500). Toned, nearly very fine - very fine and very scarce.

The reverse honours Trajan's deceased father, Marcus Ulpius Traianus, who had a successful career under the Flavians, as a legate during the Jewish War as Consul suffectus in 72, governor of Cappadocia and Galatia, created patrician by Vespasian, proconsul of Asia and governor of Hispania Baetica. He was deified in 112-3 as commemorated on this coin.
