The following was published in The Courier-Mail, Brisbane, on Tuesday 22 December 1936, page 17.

Mr. J. G. Barnet - After a long Illness the death occurred recently of Mr. James Gordon Barnet at the age of 57 years. He was the only son of the late Mr. R. G. Barnet, and was educated at the Brisbane Grammar School and in Scotland. In 1908 he joined the firm of J. C. Hutton Pty. Ltd. He saw service in France for three years during the war, and on his return became hon. secretary of the South Brisbane Sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers' League. He also was a trustee of the South Brisbane War Memorial Hall fund. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, and one son, who is in New Guinea.
