MM Group of Seven: Military Medal (GVIR Indiae Imp); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45 with MID; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. WX2855. L-Cpl. P.R.Browne. Cooper. AIF. on first medal, WX2855 P.R.Browne-Cooper on second to sixth medals. The first medal impressed, other medals pantograph engraved. The first with original ribbon and pin-back suspension bar, the ribbon dirty, medal with a few contact marks, otherwise very fine, the remaining medals good very fine - extremely fine.

In Browne-Cooper's Service File it records that his original service medals were posted to him on 4 October 1948 and they were returned unclaimed on 22 October 1948. There are no other records in his file relating to his service medals other than a later ticked off list of his medal entitlements prepared in July 1978 when Browne-Cooper requested a copy of his Army Discharge which he claimed had been inadvertently destroyed.

Together with a swing mounted matching set of miniature medals.

MM: LG 30/12/1941, p7338, to L/Cpl Peter Rothsay Browne-Cooper, 2/16 Aust Infy Bn.

Recommendation for DCM awarded MM (copied verbatim): During the action at the Litani river on 9/10 Jun 41 L/Cpl. Browne-Cooper, DR, carried messages fwd to the br. Head on numerous occasions whilst under heavy fire. At Saida on 13 Jun 41 he again was responsible for delivery of orders and messages to the fwd. Coys, showing complete disregard for the heavy enemy fire.

When Comn became more difficult because of an enemy Tk attack he was ordered to carry fwd. a pack wireless set to D. Coy 2/16 Aust. Inf. Bn. Whilst proceeding, he had his MC shot from underneath him, totally destroying it. Although severely shaken and unnerved he carried the wireless set fwd. a considerable distance under fire to the Coy H.Q. and afterwards returned to Bn. HQ to make his report on D. Coy's. Posn.

L/Cpl. Browne-Cooper's courage and devotion to duty throughout the ops. Has been of a high standard and by his personal efforts contributed considerably to the success of the action. He is recommended for the immediate award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
