Together with pair of collar badges for Army Service Corps in oxidised bronze (KC) (Cossum p33, d); pin-back riband bar for first three medals; Returned Sailors Soldiers & Airmens Imperial League Australia badge (KC with 46 overlay), in gilt and enamel, 3-figure type, by K.J.Luke, Melb, reverse numbered 49592; War Savings Certificates Voluntary Worker badge, pin-back, reverse numbered 21573; b&w photos (3) of New Guinea terrain. Henry John Mainard, foundry labourer, age 27, born at Seddon near Footscray, Vic 16Sep1912; Enl.31May1940 at Footscray, Vic; trained at Puckapunyal, Vic under command of Lt-Col N.B.Loveridge, CO of AASC; Emb.18Oct1940 for Middle East with 6 Coy AASC and arrived 26Nov1940; deployed to Syria in 1942 with 7 Div AASC; unit recalled to Australia in Mar1942 and then sent to New Guinea in Sep1942 to support troops along the Kokoda Track at Owers' Corner, Menari, Efogi, Myola, Kokoda, Buna, Gona, Sanananda, Lae and Wau; suffered from malaria and RTA May1944; he then attended the Cooking and Catering School at Chermside, Qld; Disch.15May1945 as reserved occupation; returned to live with his family at St Arnaud and Mildura, Vic; Died 23Aug1984 and is buried at Mildura, Vic.

Henry Mainard's brother, VX53915 Edmund Miles Mainard served with 2/7 Bn and was KIA 25Aug1943 and was buried at Lae War Cemetery. His other brother, VX17527 Arthur Gilbert Mainard served with 2/23 Bn and was discharged medically unfit 06Oct1941.
