John Alwyn Meillon, born 11Apr1916 at Newcastle, NSW; Enl.22Jun1940 at Paddington, Sydney, NSW; appt'd Lieutenant 16Dec1940 (CAG No.50 13/3/1940, p57); Emb.29Jul1941; WIA 04Feb1942 by shrapnel from a British Artillery round at the Johor-Singapore Causeway; taken POW 16Feb1942 while in hospital when battalion surrendered at Singapore 15Feb1942; released from Changi 04Sep1945; RTA 09Oct1945; Disch.26Nov1945 as Lieutenant ex 2/30 Aust Infy Bn.

John Alwyn Meillon married Miss Yvonne Parmentier of Mosman at St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney on 13 August 1946. One of the officiating priests, Rev. Dr. P. Walsh, and two of the groom's best men, Brian Meagher and Nugent Keikie, were also POWs. John A. Meillon died on 20 November 1961 and was buried at Macquarie Park Cemetery, North Ryde, Sydney, NSW.

The following article was published in The Forbes Advocate on Friday 5 March 1948, page 2.

'Mr. Ray Meillon, who has been practising as a solicitor at Forbes for the last 30 years has admitted to partnership a nephew, Mr. John A. Meillon, B.A., L.L.B., and from Monday last the firm will be conducted as Meillon and Meillon. Mr. John Meillon served in Malaya and at the time of the capitulation was in hospital severely wounded, and became a prisoner of war till the termination of hostilities. Before going to the war he played first-grade cricket with the University and then North Sydney, and is looking forward to the next season in Forbes to again take up the game.'
