George James Haywood, born 08Dec1923 at Hobart, Tas; Enl.06Jan1941 at Hobart, Tas; served as Ord Seaman II on HMAS Derwent 06Jan - 26Mar1941; to HMAS Cerberus 27Mar - 28Aug1941; to HMAS Sydney 29Aug - 20Nov1941; Died at age 17 when HMAS Sydney was sunk in the Indian Ocean as a result of its battle with the disguised German raider 'Kormoran'; Commemorated at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England, the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, Canberra, ACT, Geraldton HMAS Sydney II Memorial, Geraldton, Western Australia, and HMAS Sydney II 60th Anniversary of Sinking - Tasmanian Casualties, Hobart, Tasmania.
