de Lessart, the illegitimate son of the Baron de Gasq, was President of the Parlement de Guyenne, a director of the Compagnie de Indes, Maître des requêtes and [1788] one of three financial commissaries to the King. He worked closely with Jacques Necker. Arrested in early 1792 he was part of a group of 52 prisoners summoned to trial in Paris. However, he and 43 others were massacred at Versailles by Claude Fournier L'Héritier "the American".
