Jamaica, Crescent Estate Ltd., St. Mary, uniface aluminium tallies (6), each stamped C.E. LTD, but with values 20 (2), 15 & 10 (3), 32mm. (Lyall 533, 534, 535); other aluminium tallies (14), Cuyamel Fruit Company (3), incuse C.F.C., 24mm. (Lyall 536); United Fruit Company (3), circular, stamped U.F Co., 3 curved lines above and below, 21mm.; Greenwood Estate, St. Mary, uniface, stamped MF (May Farguharson), 23.5mm.; CSM or MSC (for St. Mary?), monogram only (6), 28.5mm. (Lyall 347), last seven pierced as usual, fine and better(19)
It is only from circumstantial evidence that the first has been attributed to the Crescent Estates Ltd. in St. Mary. The Cuyamel Fruit Compnay was incorporated in 1911 by Samuel Zemurray and was a major competitor to the United Fruit Co, who bought out Cuyamel for U.F.Co. shares in December 1929. The citrus growing Greenwood Estate was owned by [Gladys] May Farguharson (1884-1992), a much-honoured philanthropist and reformer.

Estimate: 120 - 160 GBP
