Thailand (Siam), a comprehensive collection of 211 porcelain gambling tokens, mostly 19th century, some perhaps earlier, contained in five divided drop-in trays in a strong card cabinet, including hexagonal, round and flower-shaped pieces, most showing value in Chinese characters, some duplication, all in good condition, a fascinating and an old, well considered collection (211)
H. A. Ramsden, Siamese Porcelain and other Tokens, Yokohama, 1911, states that opinions vary as to when the tokens were first used, from about 1760 to 1821. Such was the extent of their use that they soon were used as a more general currency. In December 1875 their manufacture was prohibited though they circulated long after that date.
