Victoria, Golden Jubilee 1887, an unusual group of green vulcanite medals, by Messrs. Britannia seated on globe, Empire pioneers to either side and a cable-laying ship at sea beyond, 38.5mm. (BHM.3273; W&E.2315A.1), mint state (38)
The India Rubber, Gutta Percha and Telegraph Works company entered the business of laying submarine cable as well as manufacturing cables for other companies engaged in cable laying. During the 1880a some of the first Bell's patent telephones were manufactured at the Silvertown plant.
