France, Louis Philippe (1773–1850, King 1830-1848), the inauguration of the new building of the École Normale, silver medal, 1841, by Antoine Bovy, laureate head l., with oak wreath, rev. above a plaque reading, LOI DU 24 MARS 1841 CONSTRUCTION DES BATIMENTS DE L'ECOLE NORMALE LOUIS PHILIPPE REGNANT..., sit two children reading either side of a medallion of Minerva, 68.5mm., (Collignon - ), struck c. 1845-1860, tone patchy on obverse, even on reverse, certified and graded by PCGS as Specimen 61
The École Normale was conceived by Napoleon, becoming, in 1826, the École préparatoire built on the site of the site of the Collège Louis-le-Grand. It reverted to its original name after the July Revolution and the new buildings commemorated on this medal were designed by the architect Alphonse-Henri Guy de Gisors.
A small though important group of French medals in silver. The medals in the lots 676 – 683 have been certified and graded by PCGS who have have marked each item as "Main Ag" which the cataloguers can only assume refers to the poinçon on the edge of each, a Hand and the word ARGENT, the mark for the period 1845-1860. The slabbing process means that the cataloguers have been unable to see the edges and have not been able to get an exact measurement or weight. Large silver medals of this period are all extremely rare and this is a very good group.

Estimate: 400 - 600 GBP
