France, Louis Philippe (1773–1850, King 1830-1848), silver Tribute Medal on his 70th birthday, 1843, by Jean-Jacques Barre, dedicated to the King by his sister, Adélaïde d'Orléans, "Madame Adélaïde", laureate head r., with oak and laurel wreath, rev. two winged figures support the Crown on crossed sceptres, in cartouch a splitting ripe pomegranate, and on banner, MON PRIX N'EST PAS DE MA COURONNE, 72.5mm. (Collignon - ), struck c. 1845-1860, patchy tone on obverse, light and even on reverse, certified and graded by PCGS as Mint State 61
Louise Marie Adélaïde Eugénie d'Orléans (1777–1847). In the midst of the July Revolution , when the politician Adolphe Thiers (later the second elected President of France and the first President of the French Third Republic), arrived at Neuilly to offer the crown to Louis Philippe, he found him absent. It was Adélaïde accepted on his behalf and Thiers is said to have responded, "Madame, you have given your family the crown", hence the significance of the legend on the medal's reverse.
A small though important group of French medals in silver. The medals in the lots 676 – 683 have been certified and graded by PCGS who have have marked each item as "Main Ag" which the cataloguers can only assume refers to the poinçon on the edge of each, a Hand and the word ARGENT, the mark for the period 1845-1860. The slabbing process means that the cataloguers have been unable to see the edges and have not been able to get an exact measurement or weight. Large silver medals of this period are all extremely rare and this is a very good group.

Estimate: 500 - 800 GBP
