Germany, Weimar Republic, Hermann Ehrhardt (1881–1971), the formation of the Freikorps Marinebrigade Ehrhardt, set of four porcelain medals [1920], by Meissen, white (2 – one with gilt edge) and terracotta (2 – one with gilt edge), facing bust of Ehrhardt in naval cap, ICH HABS GEWAGT [I have dared], rev. a Viking longboat, ERHARDTS GEIST IM HERZEN, 36-37mm., much as made, extremely fine, scarce (4)
Korvettenkapitän Ehrhardt had fought an eventful war before forming the Freikorps that carried his name and shortly afterwards participating in the Kapp Putsch. He was later to be an outspoken critic of Hitler and although one of those listed to be killed during the Night of the Long Knives, he made his escape to Austria. The Viking longboat was the badge of the Marinebrigade Ehrhardt.
