Italy, Andrea Gerini (1691-1766), Marchese, patron of the arts and collector, large cast bronze medal, undated, by Giovanni Zanobio Weber, bust r. in loose gown, rev. a winged male figure, the Genius of the Arts, stands amidst various attributes of the arts, AFFLAT ET VRGET, decorative border to both sides, 77mm. (V & T 403), a slightly 'untidy' cast, very fine
The medal has been attributed to Lorenzo Maria Weber (and still is on the V & A website). Andrea Gerini had inherited the collection of Carlo Gerini and this was to be the stimulus to his own collecting and patronage.
