Mauritius, Royal College of Mauritius, "For Good Conduct", a pair of specimen copper reward medals, unsigned and undated, c. 1890, by Allan (?) Wyon, crown above college name, rev. wreath, 30mm. and 35.5mm. (cf. R. J. Ford Collection, Spink 88, 14 October 1991, lot 615, an example in silver of the larger size), each with Wyon archive impressed number, 320 & 298, virtually mint state (2)
The Royal College of Mauritius, Port Louis, Mauritius's most prestigious secondary school, was founded in 1799 by the Frenchman Charles Isidar De Caen. The school was named Royal College School on 18th January 1929, the year that the children of the gens de couleur could enrol.
