Watch List notes:

Peru, the Panopticon, the Lima Penitentiary, copper tally for a male prisoner, c. 1862, PENITENCIA DE LIMA, rev. PRESO HOMBRE, milled edge, 30.5mm., pierced for wearing, very fine and rare
The penitentiary was built between 1856 and 1860, by order of Peresident Ramón Castilla and was inaugurated in 1862. The tally would seem to be from that time. The building was demolished in the 1960's.
