The fight between Tom Spring (1795-1851) and the Irish fighter Jack Langan (1798-1846) was their second meeting and was held at Pitchcroft, Worcester – the 72 rounds lasting some 2 ½ hours. The crowd was believed to be about 40,000 and the purse £300. Spring won, as indeed, he had won their previous fight. Both fighters retired, Tom Spring became the landlord of the " Castle Inn " in Holborn, London and Jack Langan a publican in Liverpool.
