Freemasonary: The Arts Lodge, No. 2751, jewel, 1916, of almost diamond shape, made by the electrotype process, bust r. of George Blackall Simonds, first Master, rev. THE ARTS LODGE NO 2751, masonic emblems, 58mm., integral suspension loop, very fine and rare
The Lodge was "open to those involved with sculpture and painting" and although founded in 1899, the sculptor George Blackall Simonds (1843–1929), was appointed its first Master at around the time of this jewel. The portrait is very much of the Arts and Crafts style which reflects the membership with its roots in the Arts and Crafts movement and the Art Workers' Guild. This could well explain the initial WM for William Morris, above Simonds's head. Lodge No 2751 is now the Arts and Aldersgate Lodge.

Estimate: 65 - 80 GBP
