The fight between Spring and the Irish fighter Jack Langan was held at Pitchcroft, Worcester – the 72 rounds lasting some 2 ½ hours. The crowd was believed to be about 40,000 and the purse £300. Spring won, later becoming the Landlord of the " Castle Inn " in Holborn, London.
