John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. AV Hyperpyon (27mm, 4.19 g, 6h). Magnesia mint. Struck 1232-circa 1254. Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing; pellet above throne to left / John standing facing, wearing crown and loros, holding labarum and akakia, being crowned by the Theotokos, standing facing to right. DOC 6a; SB 2073. Some luster, obverse double struck, graffiti on reverse, minor area of weakness. Good VF.
