Silver medal awarded to one of the most famous Greek painters of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the most important representative of the so called "Munich School of Painting", George Iakovidis (1853-1932) on 1878 at the Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts (Königliche Academie der Künste) of Munich, for his nude drawings (See Catalogue of the Retrospective Exhibition of George Iakovidis, National Gallery, Athens 2005-2006, Curator Miss Olga Mentzafou-Polyzou, p. 107, 140-141). Obverse: Head of Ludwig II, King of Bavaria. Reverse: Legend within wreath: ACADEMIA ARTIAM BOICA BENE MERITO. Edge: 1878 GEORG JAKOBIDES. Engraver J. Ries. Weight 58g and diameter 48mm.
Excellent details and a minor bump on the reverse's edge, common in such heavy medals. Extremely fine.
